I sat down with the paper on Saturday morning to read about Alistair Porter’s idea for a centralized heating and electricity system for the thousands of residential and commercial units he has planned for his 150ha Remarkables Park subdivision in the future (ODT 1st June 2013). It sounds like a brilliant idea for all. Commercially for Porter; the residents, who will have a clean, dependable and cost effective option; and the environment, which will not have to absorb the impact of inefficient household heating systems.

Solar and wood-fired energy systems on a grand scale are being investigated for the Frankton Flats area of Queenstown. Porter Group developer Alistair Porter told the Otago Daily Times this week he would like to see the thousands of residential and commercial units planned for his 150ha Remarkables Park subdivision heated by hot water piped from a centralised woodchip-fuelled boiler, and a 2ha photovoltaic park built to provide them with electricity.
