ASB bank staff at Remarkables Park Town Centre have hit the ground running to raise money for the annual national "Flash-a-Light for St John" appeal this week.

From last Monday, a dozen staff were taking turns to jump on a treadmill in the Remarkables Park branch and run for sponsorships and bucket donations.

Their aim is to run 125km, which ties in with the emergency service's 125th anniversary this year.

The bank is backing fundraising efforts by St John Wakatipu, which held a dedication service for its replacement $168,000 ambulance on Friday.

Ambulance crews and ASB Bank staff collected $1266 in donations in eight hours outside New World Wakatipu on Saturday, branch manager Chris Clark said.

"The public of the Wakatipu are very generous. Last year, it was about $850."

St John staff joined Arrowtown School for an assembly yesterday and were scheduled to have an early start collecting at the Coronet Peak skifield today.

Pianist Mark Wilson will entertain during a sausage sizzle on the Queenstown Village Green on Friday, 11am-2pm.

St John Queenstown operations team manager Alana Reid will give a presentation about the motivations of the appeal, at the Probus Club on Friday.

Remarkables Primary School will run a charitable coin trail and a netball game for the appeal.

St John Wakatipu will enter a float in the Queenstown Winter Festival street parade on Saturday.

"It will be eye-catching and head-turning, with music to hopefully amuse," Ms Reid said.
