Neighbourhood Precincts

The Remarkables Park Zone Master Plan consists of ten distinct neighbourhood precincts connected by a comprehensive green network of paths and trails.

This plan embraces innovation, sustainability and contemporary values to create a unique destination for locals and visitors through the application of a strong set of planning and design principles.

Each neighbourhood will offer an accessible and irresistible opportunity to live, work and play in a comprehensively integrated community. Your senses will be inspired as Remarkables Park continues to develop its own identity - an environment which provides places to simply relax and take in the views, enjoy fabulous window shopping, a network of trails, river access, a range of places to eat and be entertained.  Future development is planned to expand all of these opportunities and provide much more including a wider range of recreational facilities.


1.     The Remarkables Park Town Centre

Remarkables Park Town Centre is the retail and commercial centre of Remarkables Park.  The existing centre(Area 1a) includes 65 businesses with a current combined footprint of more than 22,000 m2.  It  attracts more than two million visitors and locals annually, with its great shopping, dining and business centre experience.  Further expansion to the town centre is currently taking place(Area 1b), and when fully developed this will more than double the size of the current Town Centre.


 2.    Mixed Use/Education Campus Precinct

This precinct, located between the Town Centre and the proposed Remarkables Quay, will create strong synergies between education facilities, student accommodation, work opportunities and the adjacent hospitality, retail, cultural, and tourism facilities.  Southern Institute of Technology has already established a tertiary facility at Remarkables Park.  It provides the opportunity to gain diploma and certificate accreditation qualifications in an extraordinary destination, a place that will truly stimulate the mind body and soul.  For more information about Southern Institute of Technology courses and accommodation please click here


 3.     Remarkables Quay Resort Village Precinct

The Remarkables Quay will marry the unique character of Central Otago with a contemporary ambience reminiscent of an old European village.  It is designed to celebrate resort lifestyle with hotels, apartments, boutique shops, restaurants micro breweries, wine bars and galleries. A proposed jet ferry service is planned to connect Remarkables Quay to Queenstown Bay and stops in between.


 4.     The Public Amenities Precinct

The proposed Public Amenities Precinct will be the cultural heart of Remarkables Park.  It aims to provide a cluster of high quality public facilities and performance venues that will stimulate creativity, innovation and learning.  It is planned to have strong linkage to the adjacent tertiary facilities.


 5.     The Care Facilities Precinct

A proposed Care Facilities Precinct has been set aside for community care and health services.  Its facilities are planned to include 130 retirement apartments, childcare services, a medical centre, hospital and medical education opportunities, health related services and staff accommodation.  The retirement village and hospital are both resource consent approved facilities.


 6.     Higher Density Residential Precinct

Proposed Higher Density Residential expansion on the Remarkables Park terraces will provide medium to higher-density accommodation planned to cater for a wide variety of quality condominiums, apartments and terrace housing developments for local residents, and 'second home' residential properties. 


 7.     Premium Waterfront Residential Precinct

This precinct will be one of Queenstown's most prestigious addresses with prime views of snow-capped mountains and extensive water frontage overlooking the mighty Kawarau and Shotover River confluence.

 8.     Parks  and Recreation Precinct

The Parks Precinct is designed to provide a master planned area for proposed community sports and recreation facilities including a major park, sports fields, golf amenities and other commercial recreation facilities.


 9.    Residential Housing (Developed)

This delightful, sunny, residential housing address is well established and accommodates more than a 100 single family homes and duplexes.  


 10.  Remarkables Park Trails and Riverside Parks  

The Remarkables Park Trails and Riverside Park form the border of the special Remarkables Park Zone with the Kawarau River.   It provides a wonderful natural environment to enjoy a riverside stroll, excellent fishing, bike riding, and excellent picnic places.
